What is Spider Vein Treatment?
Spider veins are thin vessels that appear just below the surface of the skin in a web-like pattern. The vessels may be bluish, red or purple in color. Spider veins most often appear on the feet and lower legs of people who stand for long periods, as well as pregnant women, but anyone can develop the unsightly problem.
The veins in your body are responsible for carrying blood flow back to the heart. Sometimes the tiniest of these veins have abnormalities that cause the blood to flow backwards away from the heart. The blood then pools inside the veins and may cause the vein to rupture. This is how spider veins develop.
What are the Benefits of Spider Vein Treatment?
Spider veins are not harmful, but they do pose a cosmetic concern for many men and women, especially if the veins develop in areas that are exposed by your clothes. Our spider vein treatments destroy the damaged veins.
How Does Spider Vein Treatment Work?
Aspire Medical Spa performs spider vein treatments with the Cynosure® ICON™ laser. The energy emitted from the device targets the damaged veins without affecting the surrounding skin, nerves and muscles. The heat from the laser is absorbed by the vein, which causes permanent damage. Your body eliminates the vein, and blood is rerouted to neighboring veins.
Am I a Good Candidate for Spider Vein Treatment?
Most spider veins do not require medical evaluation prior to treatment, but we do recommend that you speak with your physician about the issue. Some spider veins are indicators of problems with larger veins that may not be visible.
What Should I Expect from Spider Vein Treatment?
Our medical aesthetician uses a device to administer the laser energy in short bursts. You may feel a sensation similar to snapping your skin with a rubber band. The treatment takes about 30 minutes. You may see some reduction in the spider veins after the first treatment, but additional treatments may be needed to completely destroy the veins.
