The Chemical Peel Process and What to Expect During Recovery
From Lexington, Wellesley, and Peabody, MA, Aspire offers the latest advancements in chemical peels to help improve skin texture, tone, and radiance. Patients looking to reduce wrinkles and signs of aging, treat acne and pigmentation and improve skin texture can benefit from chemical peels.
Before jumping into a chemical peel treatment, educating ourselves about the process and the associated recovery time is important. Aspire Med Spa ensure every patient comes away from a consultation with realistic expectations about the procedure, daily expectations, and the overall timeline for recovery.
The Chemical Peel Procedure
A chemical peel is a process that involves applying a chemical solution directly to the skin to facilitate exfoliation. The affected skin will eventually peel away, revealing a refreshed, healthier layer. Depending on the individual patient’s treatment plan, chemical peels can range from light to deep.
At Aspire, we offer a variety of chemical peels and are committed to ensuring every patient gets the right treatment for their needs. During your initial consultation, one of our skilled aesthetician will assess and analyze your skin type to customize the chemical peel according to your desired results.
While the procedure is minimally invasive and non-surgical, it is important to understand the necessary precautions and downtime associated with chemical peel treatments.
The Chemical Peel Recovery Process
Following the procedure, it’s normal to experience temporary redness and irritation. In mild cases, recovery may be relatively short, with peeling taking place about two days following the procedure. Deeper peels, however, require more recovery time, some up to ten days.
During recovery, patients should avoid the sun and excessive heat exposure and take steps to limit the risk of infection. Aspire Med Spa offers helpful advice to ensure a successful recovery following any chemical peel treatment:
Day 1
Patients should expect a slight pink tone to the skin following treatment. It is normal to experience a mild burning or tingling sensation. To reduce these feelings, a cold compress or a moisturizer is recommended.
Days 2-3
The skin may become dry and flaky. To keep skin moisturized and avoid any possible wetness and itching, it is recommended to apply a moisturizing cream or ointment several times a day.
Days 4-5
The skin may split into smaller peeling patches. The skin may appear pinkish in color, and some tenderness in the area can be expected.
Days 6-7
The skin is itchy and may be pinkish and glowing, with occasional flaking. A moisturizing cream or light moisturizer should be applied two to three times a day.
Days 8-10
The skin will be healthier, softer, and brighter. Makeup can be applied two days after peeling has subsided. During this stage, sunscreen is a must and should be applied 30 minutes before any sun exposure.
Overall recovery time varies from patient to patient – there is no absolute timeline for everyone. At Aspire Med Spa, skilled professionals monitor the recovery process and provide necessary advice and guidance each step of the way. Our staff is dedicated to giving all our patients a safe, comfortable, and effective experience in all procedures offered.
