What to Expect From Your First PRP Treatment?

Are you looking for a natural treatment to help rejuvenate your skin, or restore hair on your scalp? If so, PRP may be for you! Read on to learn more about PRP and the many benefits.

Is PRP Appropriate for You?

PRP (platelet rich plasma) uses the power of growth factors found in the plasma of your blood. PRP can easily be combined with other procedures such as RF microneedling to further improve results and stimulate collagen production for 7-10 days after treatment.

At Aspire Med Spa, we employ a PRP kit that includes a fibrin matrix that acts like scaffolding to hold the PRP in place for the entire cycle of expression of growth factors; over 7-10 days. Most PRP kits do not contain this fibrin matrix which means that the client will lose most of the growth factor benefits. This is what sets our PRP treatments apart.

Ideal candidates are those looking to improve the tone and texture of their skin, or those who wish to treat hair growth on the scalp. Please contact us today to schedule a consultation.

How to Prepare for PRP

The goal of PRP treatment is to stimulate an inflammatory response at the injection site, stimulating collagen in the skin. One of the most important ways to prepare for your procedure is to stop using any anti-inflammatory medications at least a week before. You will also want to avoid sun exposure and sunburn.

The PRP Treatment

Before you have your PRP injections, you will have to come in to have the PRP created. You will have blood drawn from your arm so that it can be placed into a centrifuge and the liquid plasma can be separated from the platelet-rich parts of the blood. This process takes around 15 minutes.

Prior to getting your PRP injection or treatment, the site area is numbed with a local anesthetic. Next, you will receive your injection or treatment and will be free to return home.

You might feel the effects of the anesthetic for a few hours and may experience numbness in the area. After the anesthetic wears off, you’ll notice some discomfort at the treatment site that can last up to 48 hours.

Your Recovery Period

You are advised to use ice packs to help ease the pain and swelling at the treated site. Avoid using anti-inflammatories and rest for the next few days to allow the area to heal.

Recovery time will vary depending on the PRP treatment performed. Generally, you shouldn’t expect PRP treatment to work overnight like magic. In some cases, you might need a second injection or treatment before you experience desired results.
